Henri de Laborde de Monpezat was a French diplomat and the husband of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. He was born on 11 June 1934 in Talence, France, and grew up in Paris.
He served in the French Army during the Algerian War and later joined the French diplomatic service. In 1967, he was appointed as the French ambassador to Denmark, where he met Princess Margrethe, the heir to the Danish throne. They were married in 1967 and Henri was granted the title of Prince Consort of Denmark.
During his time as Prince Consort, Henri was involved in various philanthropic and cultural activities, including supporting the arts and promoting Danish design and architecture. He also supported environmental causes and was an advocate for sustainable development.
Henri suffered from dementia in his later years and was largely retired from public life. He passed away on 13 February 2018 at the age of 83.
